Tourism relations between Azerbaijan and India continue to flourish, with discussions held on July 20 between Fuad Naghiyev, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency, and Sridharan Madhusudhanan, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of India to Azerbaijan.
During this meeting, both parties explored the promising prospects for furthering bilateral tourism cooperation. They discussed measures for mutual promotion, the cultural and historical factors that captivate Indian tourists in Azerbaijan, the recent increase in Indian tourist visits to Azerbaijan, and efforts to enhance the number of direct flights between the two countries. Notably, "IndiGo Airlines" plans to introduce direct flights from India to Azerbaijan starting in August of this year, which is anticipated to further boost tourism ties.
A significant increase in Indian tourist arrivals to Azerbaijan has been observed, with more than 47,670 foreign visitors from India exploring Azerbaijan in the first half of 2023. This marks a remarkable threefold increase compared to the same period last year and a 1.7-fold increase when compared to the same period in 2019.
The application of a simplified "e-visa" system for Indian citizens traveling to Azerbaijan has also facilitated this growth. Currently, "Azerbaijan Airlines" operates direct flights between Delhi and Baku.
